Charles H. Jones Building
Macon State College
Macon, Georgia

  1 . 2 . 3 . 4 .

This dramatically linear, three-story building creates a new image for the rapidly growing Macon State College campus. Situated prominently on the western edge of the campus, this structure reinforces the campus master plan and the new linear pedestrian walkway.

The barrel-vaulted roof of the building is interrupted along its length by the flat plane of the atrium skylight, thereby emphasizing the main entrance and atrium lobby that separate the building into two wings. In the longer wing, the lower floor consists of the nursing and health sciences faculty offices and general classrooms, while the natural sciences offices and classrooms occupy the upper floors. The short wing of the building provides additional classroom space assigned to higher-level coursework, and provides office and conference space for the Graduate Program. Phase two of this complex will include the addition of a central conference center and a separate IT/ Classroom building. The atrium entrance of the first phase building is designed to serve all three components of this dynamic new complex.
