CONSTRUCTION STARTED ON LANDMARK PROJECT FOR JOHN PORTMAN & ASSOCIATES
Fortune Finance Center to be Centerpiece of new Central Business District
ATLANTA, GA - May 31, 2006 - In a spectacular ceremony today, the groundbreaking for the Zhejiang Fortune Finance Center was celebrated. The project, designed by John Portman & Associates (PORTMAN), will set the quality benchmark for future development within the new Central Business District (CBD) of Hangzhou.
The complex is comprised of two towers set within an urban plaza. The use of curved shapes distinguishes the towers as the first large scale development in the CBD. The relationship between the towers takes on a sculptural feel. As the top of one building reaches up, its peak flows into the rising summit of the other, creating a dynamic energy between the sloping roofs of the two towers
Setting the towers into an urban plaza provides people with a refuge from the hustle and bustle of typical busy city streets. The towers present stunning panoramic city views, rising 212 meters (52 stories) and 148 meters (36 stories) above street level. There is a total of 130,000 square meters of office space in the towers, while the lower lobby level offers dining and retail shopping.
The project will play a vibrant, active role in the birth of the new Central Business District for the city. Easy access for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, as well as convenient entries to public transportation will help make the complex a connection point to where everything happens within the CBD.
It is expected that construction will be completed by the end of 2007. For more information about Fortune Finance Center and other projects by John Portman & Associates, please visit www.portmanusa.com.
