THE WESTIN WARSAW CELEBRATES ITS GRAND OPENING
Dynamic Hotel Development Redefines Warsaws Central Business District
ATLANTA, GA (September 17, 2003) John Portman & Associates, Inc. (Portman) is pleased to join Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. in announcing the grand opening of The Westin Warsaw hotel, located in the heart of the business and financial center of Warsaw on one of the citys prime thoroughfares. The hotel serves as the center point of the existing Atrium North and South complex, developed by Skanska International and Portman Holdings. The importance of the hotels location at the corner of Grzybowska Street and Jana Pawla II Boulevard generated the creation of a glazed vertical tube that will act as a beacon for Warsaws Wola District.
Designed to be one of Polands most dynamic hotel environments, The Westin Warsaw hotel includes 366 elegantly appointed rooms, conference facilities, a ballroom, restaurant, bar, fitness center, and a 1,600-square-foot (150 sm) presidential suite on the 20th floor with panoramic views of the city. The five-star, 20-story international business hotel is equipped to accommodate international business travelers bound for Eastern Europe by offering all the amenities needed to conduct 21st century commerce. Joining Portman in the execution of the design of the hotel were the architects Design Office Kazimierski and Ryba, Warsaw, Poland and Skanska Teknik Ab, Sweden. The interiors were designed by Wilson & Associates Inc. of Dallas, Texas.
The hotel towers L-shape utilizes an efficient double-loaded corridor design. At the corner between the two legs, a glass atrium serves as the focal point of the building. It is also the point where the towers vertical circulation is located. Dynamic illuminated glass observation elevator cabs provide an exciting experience for guests and a kinetic sculpture for the citizens of Warsaw.
